Lady Hunters Have a Blast at Dove Hunt
EDGEFIELD, S.C. — Women of all ages and backgrounds took part in a ladies-only event in Trenton, S.C., on Sept. 23 during the National Wild Turkey Federation's (NWTF) Women in the Outdoors/Hunting with a Hero Dove Hunt.

Fourteen women participated in the dove hunt at the South Carolina Forestry Commission's Taylor Nursery. A few of the participants had hunted dove or other game before, however most of the women were first-time hunters. Four of the participants traveled from Fort Bragg, N.C., where they serve on active duty with the United States Army.
"The civilian hunters were thrilled to spend time with the soldiers from Fort Bragg who were able to join us," said Teresa Carroll, Women in the Outdoors coordinator. "The camaraderie that the Women in the Outdoors program offers is a part of what makes the program special. Hunts like this offer women the chance to relax and have fun in a stress-free environment while making new friends."
The NWTF's Women in the Outdoors program provides women the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors through local chapter events nationwide. Whether it is shooting, hunting, fishing or archery, there is no limit to the outdoor opportunities Women in the Outdoors can bring to women looking for a way to make new friends and spend time outside.
"I really enjoyed the event. It was a great opportunity for both novice and experienced shooters to come out and enjoy being in the field together. Plus our event mentors helped us individually and allowed us to enjoy the hunt without any pressure," said Leslie Macaluso.
Macaluso traveled from Clemson University where she serves as president of the Shotgun Club and promised that although the dove hunt was her first Women in the Outdoors event, it certainly would not be her last.
The next Women in the Outdoors event will be Nov. 7 at the NWTF's Wild Turkey Center, located at 770 Augusta Road in Edgefield, S.C. To download the event flyer, click here. For more information about Women in the Outdoors contact Teresa Carroll at (803) 637-7551 or tcarroll@nwtf.net.
